Wikipedia - Liga Leumit

The Israeli Liga Leumit (Hebrew: הליגה הלאומית, HaLiga HaLeumit, lit. 'National League') is the second division of the professional Israeli association football (soccer) league system. This 2ⁿᵈ tier league is placed right below the Israeli Premier League.

History

Liga Leumit came into existence at the start of the 1955–56 season, replacing Liga Alef as the top division in Israeli football. However, it was usurped as the top flight in the 1999–2000 season, when it was replaced by the Premier League. Since then it has operated as the second tier in the Israeli football league system.

Israel - Liga Leumit er den næstbedste professionelle fodboldliga i Israel. Ligaen består af 16 hold, der spiller et dobbelt round-robin-format med 30 kampe hver. De to øverste hold rykkes op til Ligat Ha'Al, mens de to nederste hold rykkes ned til Liga Alef.

Liga Leumit blev grundlagt i 1951 som den tredje division i Israel. Ligaen blev forfremmet til anden division i 1999, og den blev omdøbt til Liga Leumit i 2006.

Nogle af de mest succesrige klubber i Liga Leumit er Hapoel Ra'anana, Maccabi Petah Tikva og Bnei Yehuda.

Liga Leumit er en vigtig fodboldliga i Israel, og den har produceret mange talentfulde spillere, som er gået videre til at spille for Israels landshold.
